Coming up: Eiger, Jungfrau and Outdoor Show

It’s been long since my last post. While it’s summer and there’s no ice climbing ahead, it seems that there will be couple of interesting events coming up. First of all, I’m getting my self to the Eiger / Jungfrau region and going to do some climbing there. Actually it seems that I’m able to spend most of the July there. Second, I’m going to Outdoor Show that’s held between 14th and 16th of July in Friedrichshafen Germany. It’s the biggest gear industry event in the world. I’m sure to get plenty of insight on what comes to gear for upcoming season. So stay tuned!

A trip to Kebnekaise ahead

The long waited spring trip is ahead. After contemplating several options we ended up to go to Kebnekaise (once again). I guess it’s the ease of access and good facilities there that made us lean towards it. Well, of course the most important reason is the great mountain environment there.

Last year we climbed the south peak, now we’re planning for the north peak. Furthermore I think that I’ve spotted a nice and possibly unclimbed multi-pitch ice climbing route from the nearby mountain as well. I’m heading to Kebnekaise a bit earlier than the others, so I’ll have plenty of time to scout the area. Like last year, the good folks at Tribevine.com are also involved (see event invitation at facebook. In short it seems that I’m going to post plenty of ski touring and ice climbing images from the trip soon. Meanwhile you might want to check the report from the 2010 trip.

Finally heading to Norway

Finally it’s confirmed. We’re heading to Norway on Thursday with my friend Jari. We’ve allready geared for 15-20 Abalakovs, hundreds of meters of ice and four winter nights in a tent. Can’t really wait to get there.

At some point our plan was to get our selves in to Skibotn valley and climb the Hourglass fall there (see Almost a serious accident article). Since we found some very prominent falls, up to 300 meters high, with much easier access, from Kåfjord valley we’ve changed our plans. Still I feel it kind of tempting to go for Hourglass as well, and perhaps we’ll try that on our way back as well.

I’m going to take plenty of photos and write a detailed trip report once we’ll get back from there. There’s a slight chance that I will post some on the spot thoughts too. Won’t promise though. It might happen that I just don’t want to spoil my time out there on front of computer or writing posts on my mobile.
